New York is now home to one of the most high-tech book stores in the world. Featuring state of the art security systems, touch pad terminals for quick and easy browsing and ordering, and floor to ceiling shelves of books; you wouldn't think it could get better. Cage Book's owner, Jane Doe, vows that if she doesn't have the book of your desires, she'll find it, or someone who can. Catering to all walks of life, you're sure to find something of interest.
Going out of town for a while and need a secure location to store your delicate texts? Cage Books is home to one of the most advanced vaults in London with a fully operational lab for restoring and maintaining old texts.
Cage Books is a great place to relax and find what you enjoy most. Stop in today!
Landscaping: Trees, grass, and floral bushes in the parking lot which is within the gated confines of the property. A wall of bushes blocks the front from the back. There is a fountain at the back of the house as a faux enclosure of the terrace. It's a herd of elephants and their babies as if at a watering hole. This goes with the general safari theme of the terrace (overlooked by her breakfastnook-not available to the public). Beyond which is a bit of a back yard complete with floral garden shaded by large (and in some cases relocated) trees with a few fruiting trees among them, open for public picking while she has a personal garden behind the small maze. Benches and hammocks are strategically placed for day time reading or relaxing while the entire property is closed in by a stone wall and iron gate with a paid watchman. (applications welcome!)
Layout features:
+The floor is a neutral medium brown and a light cream floating tile in the classic checker board style.
+The walls are a neutral beige with accenting tapestries, old letters and book pages in frames of gold and a few book related paintings.
+The windows are all frosted around the edges and sport deep burgundy cloth drapes except in the study where the drapery is a veiled white to allow the most natural light.
+The ceiling is covered in an artful display of tiled mirrors that allow for maximum light distribution with minimal harsh effects on both the books and the patrons.
+The overall theme of the store is modern technologies in a comfortable, nearly Victorian style store. The convenience of today with the soothing effects of yesterday.
Technology:
+Every corner of the store and parking lot is under video surveillance to ensure the safety and security of the books and people within the store. (monitored by a security firm, obviously)
+ All lighting is energy efficient bulbs specially crafted for books to ensure minimal damage with exposure. They are both bright, and soothing.
+The Public bathroom is equip with automatic flush, soap dispenser, faucet and paper towel dispenser to ensure the cleanest visit.
+Each book case, which has shelves from floor to ceiling, is part of an innovative inventory prototype system which places pressure markers beneath each book for the most accurate inventory available. Each book is separated by a cm thick microband plastic to ensure that none of the books will lean into one another, or accidentally take the place of another.
+In the foyer of the store are three Touch Screen Terminals, or TSTs, that use this pressure marking inventory system, the PMIS, for real time inventory tracking that allows patrons to see the exact location of a given book anywhere in the store. These terminals also allow patrons to order any books not in stock that can be commonly ordered. Specialty items must go through a special request at the front desk.
+The Limited Touch Screen Terminals, or LTSTs, are featured on select shelves and show precise inventory using the PMIS system for only the books in that area. These terminals also offer the ability to order any books for that genre which aren't currently in stock.
+Since the shelves are so high, Automatic Stationary Ceiling Ladders, or ASCLs are positioned throughout the store in corresponding location. These ladders are remote activated and descend from the ceiling not unlike a Venetian blind. Installed flush with the tile are small round ports that open upon descent so that when the bottom of the ladder is lined up, a single step on the lowest rung will lock the ladder in place. (Please note there are signs posted that say to request assistance for higher shelved items.)
(please note:
The hall surrounding the vault and office bathroom is not on the official floorplans.
On the city's copy of the plans, the vault is bigger, and the office is a third bedroom with a bigger bathroom.)
The Vault
+The Vault consists of two levels. The Outer Vault with is home to rare books and special orders and the Inner Vault which is home to ancient texts and artifacts and highly valuable books and other things as well as a fully functional lab for restoring and maintaining them.
+The security for the vault is top notch which includes a de-ionization room that frees the clothing and body of harmful particles and dust to make the vault dust free.
+There is even a separate ventilation system which is self contained and not unlike a chemists lab to keep the inside positive and the outside negative to ensure no foreign materials enter the vault.
+There are over five different security checks and codes to ensure only authorized personal may enter the vault and even more to enter the Inner Vault.
