Charming, sexy and sophisticated, Neal Caffrey is one of the world's greatest con artists. After escaping from prison - and getting caught by the man who put him there in the first place, Agent Peter Burke - Neal strikes a bargain: In exchange for his freedom, Neal will help the FBI catch the most elusive White Collar criminals in the country.
Now, Neal must walk the line between his new role as a top FBI asset, and his old life as a criminal mastermind with an agenda of his own.
History:
Son of James Bennet, a police officer who was arrested by his partner for the murder of another police officer when Neal was two years old. After the trial, Neal and his mother as well as Bennet's partner Ellen Hill, were put in witness protection and moved to St. Louis. Neal's name in St Louis under the witness protection program was Danny Brooks. In St Louis, Neal learned the fine art of pool and by age nine was quite the hustler. He also had a penchant for being late for school. In an attempt to correct that, he first set all the clocks in the school back a half hour. When that failed, he made a more intricate attempt by barricading the roads in order to reroute the school buses to pass by his house, which worked for a few days. After that, he forged his own bus pass and was never late again.
Neal grew up with his mother's tales of how his father died heroically in a hail of gunfire battling the bad guys. At eighteen, Ellen (now known as her WITSEC identy of Ellen Parker) told Neal the truth. As a result, Neal left WITSEC, ditching his Danny Brooks alias, taking up the name of Neal Caffrey, Caffrey being his mother's maiden name and moved to New York City.
Shortly after his arrival, he meets Mozzie. The two become fast friends and cohorts in the con game.
Aliases:
Danny Brooks - Saint Louis, MO (WITSEC ID)
George Danvary - San Antonio, TX (FBI cover ID)
George Devore - Nogales, AZ
George Donnelly - West Bloomfield, MI
Nicholas Halden - Reno, NV
Steve Tabernackle - Beverly Hills, CA
Criminology 101 Syllabus:
A new breed of forger, technological virtuoso with a classical artistic foundation. Suspected of art forgery, theft of the Antioch manuscripts, and convicted of bond forgery. Caffrey was suspected of hundreds of thefts before agent Peter Burke of the FBI apprehended him. His highly sophisticated schemes made it difficult for the FBI to follow his trail, along with his mastery of the arts made many of his crimes go unnoticed for many years, long after the trail was cold.
He had a few accomplices, none on record, most of the time choosing to work alone, keeping the number of people that could turn on him to a near zero. It is estimated that he forged over 10.3 billion dollars of priceless antiquities. Never the wiser, the FBI pursued him for six years and finally caught him.
