AnAcidIntention: He read the truth in her eyes. He knew when she was lying, ever since she was a girl with curls..and so he saw she did have a guard, and that contented him some little bit. His vision of what Africa had been like was largely informed by newsreels and films and commercials for charities to fix hare-lips and build school sites. Overall, there were usually more machine guns than he was comfortable having his baby sister near. He uncapped the plastic lid from his coffee and inhaled the aroma, considering her over the rim. "Try to select someplace less war torn, next. Paris, perhaps."
impassionedhope: She knew he picked up on things however in a public place such as this,, he would not dare to yell or berate her for her lies. She drew in a small breath and gave a small nod to his suggestion. " I was thinking something of that nature. Though I am going to be heading toward Los Angeles.. I thought it best to thank the man that collaborated upon the tour .. in person. "she stated with a sweet smile. Small and delicate.. but well she was her father's daughter. " How have you and..Mirithia or..whatever her name is, doing? "She asked as she shook her head a little. Ok so she didn't remember the woman's name. ahem.. sue her?
AnAcidIntention: Los Angeles. Unchaperoned. He gave her a warning little noo. "No Dicaprio," he reminded her, just in case. He sipped his coffee. Los Angeles was a much better choice for her. Providing she remained out of Compton, no one was going to shoot at her, which did a lot for his nerves. He had enough worry on his mind. He restrained a sigh at the flip comment and put the coffee down. Reached up to probe between his eyebrows. "Veronica, it can't have escaped your notice that I am considering proposing marriage to her, once she's begun the new semester at Oxford," His blue eyes were firm on Veronica's face, to take in her reaction.
impassionedhope: The warm rich laughter was given. " No.. no Dicaprio.. I promise. "She held up her hand and offered him a doubious smile. " There is a fashion show and I am going to go and watch underfed women try to get people to donate money to feed people elsewhere. "She stated with a grin. Though that grin froze.. " Really? I.. " She blinked and gave a small nod. " I am happy for your Chessy.." A bit robotic in that ? Absolutely , she didn't want her brother marrying that life sucking little whore.. ahem.. drug addicted life sucking little money grubbing little whore. " You will of course make her sign a prenup? "She asked smoothly. Or well she hoped it was.
AnAcidIntention: "Don't call me Chessy." Yes, this was a conversation Chester should have tabled. He wasn't sure why he'd said it, it sort of..popped out, if such a thing could happen to a man who guarded his lips so carefully. "Don't lie," he said in response to her congratulations by rote, though. He didn't even have to look at her to know it almost choked her, and that given the first opportunity Veronica would try and stab Miri with a shrimp fork. As for the addict, well, Chester was a drug addict too, so he had no moral high ground there. Or anywhere else, really. "You're sick at the thought of it and horrified she'll clean out the family coffers."
impassionedhope: " Well I can't sit here and say that I think it’s a fabulous idea.. however if she makes you happy.. then.. there isn't really much I can say. "She stated quietly to him. " and I would hate to see some of Father's mistakes replayed " She pointed that out to! Oh she knew that Chester was, though that was entirely different HE was her brother.
AnAcidIntention: That hurt. Slinging the memory of the revolving step-mothers at him, and he knew she did it on purpose. The words hit, and he straightened and tensed somewhat, shoulders drawing back. "Credit me with a little intellect, Veronica. She lacks polish, proper manners, yes, she's been living on the street since she was sixteen. Before that, she was attending MIT for mathematics. She's brilliant, and yes, temperamental, dramatic, and a dozen other difficult aspects, but then, I'm hardly the picture of tranquility, am I? "
impassionedhope: While she had meant to stun him. perhaps the quip was indeed too harsh to bare against her brother. She sighed quietly " You are correct, my apologies. "She stated softly. " and.. perhaps you aren't. Though. forgive me in hoping. that .. this was bit a fling.. "She admitted to that as well. " Though..at least do have some common sense about it, a prenup is not that big of a deal.. I had Eric sign one when he and I were engaged. "She pointed out.
AnAcidIntention: Fling. He didn't have flings any more. Flings were light and merry, for happy people who wanted to brush by each other, leaving only the scent of perfume or cologne when they passed. "People do not have flings with one-legged men." Chester said, and it was cold and final and honest. They didn't. They took one look at him, and thought the sex would be weird, and the whole thing more effort than a mere fling was worth. Well, and there was the fact that Chester was colder than a glacier in January. That Miri had been the only one to bother looking under the frost. "I' am sure Elkins will not allow me to make any arrangements until I have signed a pre-nuptial agreement." The family lawyer would garrote him, if he didn't.
Neal G Caffrey: The day had been rather uneventful which was something Neal could both appreciate and lament. Some excitement would have been great, but things had been oddly quiet. In an attempt to keep from being bored, he'd hit the museum, admired the paintings and .... cased the place. No, he wasn't going to rob it, but it was good to stay sharp. Kept the skills from becoming rusty as it were. Heading home, he decided to stop for a cup, and maybe one of those cronuts he liked so well. Stepping into the coffee shop, he glanced around, a pause given as he spotted the blonde, his mind racing to pull her name from his memory.
impassionedhope: " Especially those so receptive as yourself. " She chimed up as if to make her point. The man, Elkins had been watching over the family for years. When the door opened she glanced over and offered a small wave to Neal, he was familiar , though names were a touch fleeting today. " Either way it goes, if .. this woman is what you want in your life.. then.. very well. "She wasn't going to be happy about it.. but she would shut up and smile. Which is exactly what that pretty little blonde did.
AnAcidIntention: Chester was prepared to respond, but when Veronica waved to someone behind him, he picked up his coffee and sipped. Hardly surprising, really, Veronica met thousands of people a year, so everywhere she met, she knew someone and someone knew her, and she always maintained contacts. It was jsut as well, as this was hardly the place to discuss his marital situation. Nor did he strictly want to. His intent had been spoken, and Veronica had time to grow accustomed to the idea. He pulled out his phone from his pocket to check the time. He had to return to work, soon.
Neal G Caffrey: It didn't take long, and the name popped to go with the face. She was big into charity work. Neal smiled and wandered over to the table she shared, a smile and a nod given the gentleman, before his hand was offered to "Veronica. It's so good to see you again. How have you been?"
impassionedhope: She shifted a little , no this was not a conversation that was going well, though she adored her brother.. and for his sake alone she'd figure out a way to get along with the woman. Somehow. When Neal approached she offered a warm smile and caught his hand " Hello.. and good to see you as well. "She chimed up easily falling into that pattern. " I've been very well and yourself? "She inquired with a rise of the brows. "Oh.. how silly of me.. this is my brother. Chester. "She introduced the man across the table from her.
AnAcidIntention: He was attending his coffee, until the fellow came directly over to the table. Then, as manners dictated, he rose, a little stiffly, but he rose, all sharp charcoal business suit, two thousand dollar watch
AnAcidIntention: and a shuttered, cool expression that said Chester Cockburn was a hell of a poker player. He offered a well-maintained hand to shake. "Chester Cockburn," He introduced, his English accent luscious and distinctly upper-class, like Veronica, just as they were two blond peas in a pod that screamed high breeding. His blue eyes raked up and down the man briefly, and when the handshake was finished, he resumed his seat.
Neal G Caffrey: Taking her hand, he brought it up to his lips, a light brush given her knuckles before he released her hand. Turning then to her brother as he was introduced, Neal smiled to him and offered his hand out. "Neal Caffrey. A pleasure to meet you." Once the pleasantries were over, he looked back at Veronica. And yes, he'd noted the watch, but he only ever swiped them at parties to impress people and well to annoy Peter. "I've been great, thanks." A lot had happened since they'd last met. A trip out of country, unsanctioned, but there it was, and of course his subsequent return and additional time added to his fashion accessory. "Still working the charity events?"
impassionedhope: Neal! That’s right.. that was his name as she watched her brother pour on the charm there. She shook her head a little slowly before her eyes and smile turned back to Neal a moment. " I'm glad to hear it, and yes .. yes I am. Are : you still into evaluating art? "She inquired.
AnAcidIntention: "Mr. Caffrey," Was Chester's response, along with a nod of the head. He'd watched the man kiss Veronica's hand and resisted the urge to cock his brow. He gave them a moment's chatting, about art it seemed, during which he downed the remainder of his coffee. When he was through he rose once more. "Pardon me, I must return to work." He stepped aside and gestured to his chair, should Neal want to make use of it to chat with Veronica. "It was pleasant to meet you, Mr. Caffrey, Veronica, call me before you leave," He caught her eye, one of those sibling telepathy things, his gaze telling her he meant it, and their previous conversation was not quite over, but would keep.
Neal G Caffrey: His grin was infectious as he smiled at her. "I am. As a matter of fact I spent most of the day at the museum." When Chester rose, Neal's attention returned to him, a nod given, his hand offered out once more. "The pleasure was mine." A smile followed, and then he slid into the vacated seat, his suit jacket unbuttoned as he sat, his hat slipped from his head and settled to table off to the side.
impassionedhope: She looked up at Chester as he stood and gave a small nod " Of course I will. " She rose up and moved to give her brother a hug and a light kiss to his cheek. " Don't work too hard.. that’s what we hire other people for. " She reminded him softly, however they both knew that neither was satisfied until dealing with the problems first hand. She stepped back and returned to her seat. No the conversation wasn't nearly done.. but she had a feeling there was no talking him out of it. Oh.. the tabloids were going to love this.. she was going to need to start doing some research on the woman and trying to find a way to hide any.. interesting tid bits of her past from popping up. She looked to Neal and gave a small nod. " The museum.. is really one of my favorite places to hold Galas.. educational and elegant. "She laughed softly.
AnAcidIntention: He made a loose sound which was less an agreement; more a simple affirmation the statement had been heard. He always worked too hard. It was in his blood, as it was hers. He kissed her cheek in return, took up his cane, and departed the coffee shop, leaving Veronica with Neal.
Neal G Caffrey: "I'm sorry if I interrupted anything." A smile of apology was offered to Veronica as her brother left, and then he lifted a hand to flag down a waitress, before looking back at her. "Anything new and exciting since we last met?"
impassionedhope: She held a warm smile and shook her head. " Nothing that won't haunt me later. "She admitted with a soft chuckle. " My brother and I have very busy lives.. he had his meetings to go to even at this hour. "She stated quietly as she smoothed the skirt of her suit and looked at him with the rise of a brow. " I took a trip to Africa. "She offered to him with a small grin . " What about yourself? " She inquired.
Neal G Caffrey: "I ... took a trip as well. It was ... short-lived." he nodded. "But I am glad to be back. Probably more than I should be." He chuckled. "Funny how you can spend a few months in paradise only to realize that you'd really rather be in the middle of all the hustle and bustle."
impassionedhope: She gave a small tilt of her head. " Oh? Where did you go? "She inquired before taking a drink of her coffee. The light chuckle passed her lips as she looked down. " It can be addicting , the hustle and bustle. "She spoke softly before looking up at him once more.
Neal G Caffrey: "Cape Verde. It's a small, island country, tropical, off the coast of Africa. Non extradition." Neal smiled. "And yes it can. No matter how tranquil a place is, you can feel lost there after you get a place like New York in your blood."
impassionedhope: She lifted her brows. " So.. no extradition important? "She asked a bit on the softly spoken side. Well she didn't know! The small grin touched her face though she reflected on her own .. ah.. journey through Africa. " I can honestly say that it wasn't exactly the business aspect , but the idea of running water and a proper loo. "She gave a small nod. " That I found more enticing when I came back. "
Neal G Caffrey: The smile grew. "It was at the time." He chuckled at her mention of simple creature comforts that most took for granted. "You would love Cape Verde. The archipelago spans ten volcanic islands and boasts some very lush real estate."
impassionedhope: " I think I may pass on going in that direction for some time. " She admitted. The brows lifted a little. " I have to ask.. why is it important? " She shifted a little in the chair as the ankles again crossed as the soft slip of the Gucci heels slipped beneath her chair. The blonde kept her eyes on him curious as to his answer.
Neal G Caffrey: "I was being set up by a Fed who wanted to get me caught between a rock and a hard place so he could justify relocating me to DC." He nodded, and then leaned in, voice dropping. "I'm... actually a confidential informant for the FBI. I work the White Collar division."
impassionedhope: She blinked at his statements.. both of them as she leaned forward when he did. The blue eyes stared at him a little confused. " I still don't understand why no extradition would be important if you are innocent of the crimes in which he was attempting to set you up for, if you are working with the FBI.. Wouldn’t that be a confliction of loyalty? "She asked quietly. Well he started the whispering thing.
Neal G Caffrey: "He was good at fabricating, and had he been successful in his attempt, I would have been looking at a lot longer than another four years on a tether. As it was, Peter and I caught him, rather than the other way around. Peter, being the agent that I work with." Yes, he was still whispering, his eyes searching hers. Most women at this point lost any and all interest. A very rare few found it intriguing.
impassionedhope: The young woman nodded slowly as she digested what he had to say. " Then it was a good thing that you and your partner were able to bring this to light, I'd have to say that prison uniform would not flatter you in the slightest. " She pointed out with a little grin. " So it is another case that took you to the museum? "She found it intriguing really as to what the man was involved with.
Neal G Caffrey: "It's not a good look." Neal shook his head, then leaned back and chuckled. "More like an appreciation of art. That and I like to keep sharp. Plan things that I will never, ever," he shook his head as he gestured a no with his hand, "perpetrate." Neal nodded. "It helps to know how something could be done, should someone do it. To catch a thief, you have to think like one. That's where I come in." He shrugged.
impassionedhope: She sat up and picked up her coffee and with a small sip from it set it back down once again. " Ah I see, so .. is that what you are incarcerated for then? Being a thief? "She asked. It was probably a very good thing that Chessy had left. Dear gods if he heard this conversation she would positively NEVER hear the end of it.
Neal G Caffrey: "Bond forgery, actually. I was never convicted of anything else, though there was a good deal of speculation. I did four years upstate... Well, almost." He smiled at the waitress as she brought his coffee and then Neal looked back at Veronica. "But now I work with the FBI, and I'm happy with that. I actually love what I do."
impassionedhope: She lifted her brows as she heard that. " You are very lucky.. so what is prison like? " She inquired as she grinned at the waitress before her attention returned to him. " I can say the alternative would have been, unpleasant. " So yes loving what he did now.. given the consideration of prison life? Who wouldn't love his job?
Neal G Caffrey: "Prison is ... not pleasant. No matter how much you manage to con your way through and keep the guards and other cons off your back, through various means, there's still one thing you cannot do and that's simply walk out." Well, most people couldn't. Neal did, but he was highly motivated and it cost him another four years, which fortunately, he managed to convince Peter to push for work release. "Prison tends to make animals of men. It takes a lot to come through it relatively unscathed." To look at him, well dressed in his designer suit, refined, well mannered, one wouldn't think ex-con.
impassionedhope: She listened to what he had to say , while the pretty little blonde often gave others that perception of vapidness, it wasn't really the case. Very few managed to pick up on that. " Yet you have managed to do so? What will you do when this .. work release of yours is complete? "She inquired. It an odd way she had to wonder if the FBI really had any real ideas that they were showing a known thief .. a man involved in fogery the ins and outs of how the law was incompetent to find criminals.
Neal G Caffrey: "I tend to know how to get people what they want. Cons tend to protect their go to guy for supplies. It also helps that I didn't give the guards any reason to dislike me. It was a fine like to walk, but I managed. As for what I will do after..." he contemplated that. "If allowed, I'd like to stay on with the FBI. Continue my work with the White Collar Division. We've managed a rather impressive ninety percent closure rate."
impassionedhope: " I can see how it may be rather like a business then, suppy and demand. "She pointed out quietly as she took another sip of the coffee. " Do you believe they will allow you to stay? Even with such percentages I would think the fact of the matter of your original incarceration would be .. problematic. "She inquired as she folded her hands onto her lap. The small smile always lingered just at the edges of her lips. Not that she found the current topic amusing only that she enjoyed the company and perhaps a peek at the world beyond the brilliantly colored and proper one she had come to know.
Neal G Caffrey: "On the contrary. My experience brings a unique perspective that has been, and not to sound boastful, but it's been invaluable." Neal took a moment to sip his coffee; then set the cup back down. "Peter and I work well together, so I really don't see a reason why they wouldn't allow me to continue. It would be beneficial, obviously for the both of us. Too..." Neal chuckled, "it would give them peace of mind to know where I am."
impassionedhope: " I can see how that may be something of a burden to them if .. you were to simply.. disappear. " She laughed softly. " Though this also means I can't extend an invitation for you to accompany me to Los Angeles.." She admitted with a tiny bit of a pout , which she was fairly good at when the mood struck her. " I do however understand the.. limitations currently upon you. " She stated quietly. "I'm sure Peter is very glad that he has such a confident partner "
Neal G Caffrey: "Sadly no. Not yet at any rate." He smiled, and then nodded to her statement about Peter. "Peter's the only one who was able to catch me. And he did so twice." Neal chuckled at that.
impassionedhope: The small singsong tone came from her phone as she held up her hand a moment " You will excuse me please. .. twice.. my goodness.. naughty boy. " She chided him with a grin and slipped her phone out of the brief case. " Hello? "
AnAcidIntention: The trill of an incoming phone call to Veronica's phone sounded with a sudden start--and answered.
Neal G Caffrey: Neal chuckled at that, and when her phone rang, he quieted, sipping his coffee and taking the time to study the coffee shop and those within it.
impassionedhope: " Um.. yes. yes I am. Is something wrong? "She asked quietly , the small apologetic smile offered. She blinked and pulled the phone away from her ear to look at it a long moment. " And you came to this conclusion.. how? "She inquired as she listened though watched Neal.
Neal G Caffrey: Neal watched her a moment, then sipped his coffee. Whatever the conversation was, he was certain it wasn't good.
impassionedhope: " Oh.. I see. Well I'll do my best. "She stated quietly as she absently bit her bottom lip and sighed. " Thank you for the information. "
Neal G Caffrey: Neal had the feeling someone had run a check on him. It wouldn't be the first time and really there wasn't anything on record that he'd not already divulged or was willing to.
impassionedhope: The expression shifted just a little, a tiny bit defiant but her eyes dropped down to her cup of coffee. " I will be on my way momentarily. " She stated simply and hung up the phone and tucked it away. " I am sorry about that."
AnAcidIntention: What were big brothers for?
impassionedhope: She apologized and sighed, chewing on the information and more.. the person who called. " And.. I am going to have to go, it seems that there is a wee bit of a problem I should likely go handle. "She admitted. " I do hope we can perhaps meet again for coffee? "She inquired.
Neal G Caffrey: Neal smiled to her. "Family. They can be a bit overbearing at times." Yes, he considered Peter family. Peter was more than his partner, he was his friend, and a father figure. In fact, Peter was more of a father to him than his own had ever been, not that he'd known his father long. And when he did find him, he rather wished he hadn't. "I would very much like that." he smiled to her. "I should get going myself."
impassionedhope: She grinned relieved he wasn't offended. " Here.. this is my card, call me when you have a free moment. "She offered before reaching down to pick up the brief case sitting beside her feet.
Neal G Caffrey: Taking the card, he smiled, rising as she did. "I will do that." Neal slid the card into his shirt pocket, and then reached for his hat, walking it up to his head and giving an adjustment to the tilt of it with a slide of fingers and a tug on the brim.
impassionedhope: Charming is what that was.. as she smiled at him and stood up. " Have a wonderful evening , Neal and.. thank you for talking to me.. about.. all of that. " She stated quietly as for a moment her hand reached out and touched his arm before she made her way toward the door. The smile remained on her face until she hit the door.. then well it washed off as she drew in a breath . nosy assed big brothers!
Neal G Caffrey: Smiling at her, he nodded. "It was my pleasure." He watched her as she left, then dropped some cash on the table. His hands slid into his trouser pockets, that grin returning as he headed for the door.
impassionedhope: She made her way to the car that awaited her as she gave a small nod to the driver. She slipped into the back seat as the door was held open for her. The man stepped around to the drivers seat and.. away she went. " Do you know where Chester is staying? We're going there. "She stated quietly. Oh.. big brother was about to get a full dose of what she thought about this.
Neal G Caffrey: Stepping outside, Neal watched her getting into the car; watched as it drove away, then headed back toward Riverside drive.
impassionedhope: She knew he picked up on things however in a public place such as this,, he would not dare to yell or berate her for her lies. Ok so she didn't remember the woman's name. ahem.. sue her?
