Veronica Cockburn: She called his cell to let him know she was in town again. Though she was so horribly embarrassed by the silliness of her brother. So she was somewhat determined to try and make up for his rudeness.
Neal Caffrey: Neal pulled his phone as he walked along Broadway, and a glance at the screen brought a smile. "Veronica, hi, how are you?" He paused, not quite ready to go into the Federal Building just yet. Peter could wait a bit, and that mortgage fraud case wasn't going to grow legs and walk away.
Veronica Cockburn: “Good morning Neal... or afternoon here isn't it?” She asked as she had to push up a sleeve to find out. ”I am so sorry we have been playing phone tag here recently, are you free now?” She asked softly.
Neal Caffrey: "Well, free is a relative term." Neal chuckled, and then stepped into the building, as the rain started falling again. Frankly who needed that?
Veronica Cockburn: “I meant for an early lunch... or late breakfast...” she stated as the sudden squeak left her as she quickly stepped beneath the awning. "It seems I should have listened to the weather this morning." She laughed softly, though was lamenting her poor suit.
Neal Caffrey: "You're in New York?" He couldn't hold back that million dollar smile if he'd wanted to. "And I know what you mean; I really should have brought my umbrella. Where are you now?" He'd have to call Peter, and let him know he had something to take care of. Of course Peter would view that as something suspicious. He grinned.
Veronica Cockburn: “I am.. briefly I'm afraid, there is a gentleman I must speak to in LA .. And I do not wish to put it off too long. "She admitted as she turned and looked at the building behind her. ”I am currently outside of... what is this place... ah... Wilbur and Jones law firm?" She was reading the lettering on the door. "Well very lovely of them to offer a bit of roof." She chuckled softly.
Neal Caffrey: "Wilbur and Jones, on Fifth? I do believe I know where that is." He stepped out of the building, a twenty in hand as he moved to the curb and flagged a cab down. One would think Neal would know where it was due to the fact that he was in need of a lawyer a time or two; however there was also diamond broker in the building. And no, he hadn't hit it, but that didn't stop him from casing the place. It was habit.
Veronica Cockburn: “Yes... on Fifth... Honestly how do you keep track of all these streets! "She laughed brightly as she took another step back from the rain. The diamond broker.. dear heavens don't tell Veronica she'd have to go in and see what delights they had. It had been a while since she purchased herself something shiny!
Neal Caffrey: "It's a gift." He slid into the cab and gave the man directions, then leaned back in the seat. "So how have you been?" It was good to hear her voice and he smiled as he asked. As for her weakness for the shiny? Neal could relate, though his methods of acquisition differed from hers.
Veronica Cockburn: The warm chuckle was given while she stood there watching people move through the rain, the warm smile appeared on her face as she watched a man offer a woman his umbrella. So adorable. She sighed softly. "Hm? Oh I have been fine, a few disagreements with my brother and his... whatever." She obviously did NOT approve but it wasn't as if either of them were asking her opinion on the matter. "Otherwise grand, I had a delightful meeting with a diplomat from Sudan the other day , very elegant man. " She remarked out of hand.
Neal Caffrey: "A diplomat from the Sudan, now that sounds intriguing. Are you looking into oil commodities?" There were other things that came out of the northern African country. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious. Other things came out of Sudan. Gold. Silver. Interesting things.
Veronica Cockburn: “No... Not oil.. I was speaking with him about the refugees and the lack of safe havens for tribes that are caught within the crossfire between the rebels and the government." she explained as easily as if she were discussing the latest food fad. " He was very gracious as to speak with me about it and with luck we will meet again to speak on how to create such havens. "She grinned, a little proud of herself for that.
Neal Caffrey: "That is fantastic work." He smiled and motioned to the cab driver to pull over once he spotted her there hiding under the awning of the building. "Wait here..." Neal slid out of the cab and moved over to Veronica, his phone dropped into his pocket after he killed the connection. "There's a nice little place on 59th, that does an excellent brunch," he offered her his arm. "May I?"
Veronica Cockburn: She didn't get a chance to answer when the phone died as she looked up and there he was. " That sounds wonderful. "She stated as she slipped her hand into the crook of his arm. The pretty petite blonde allowed him to lead her back to the cab. And scooted over a little , careful not to wrinkle her skirt. " Thank you.. both.. I would have been trapped beneath that awning until the rain stopped. "She admitted. Not really but still she would complement them both.
Neal Caffrey: Neal slid in after her and gave the address to Sarabeth's, Central Park South. Looking back at Veronica, he smiled. "So you're looking to get shelter, food and medical supplies to them? That has to be a very difficult task." he paused. "You're not actually going over there, are you?"
Veronica Cockburn: She shifted to face him a little, she was used to being driven around so she didn't even seem to think twice of the cabbie or his driving. " That is the hope, I will of course begin with another foundation and see how many people I can get involved with it. "she began as she looked at him with a small nearly uncomfortable little smile. " I have already gone over.. it is a horrible thing to watch what happens to those people. I spoke with a young man.. he was maybe fourteen.. fifteen? He watched as they shot his mother and sister.. so that he had no where to come back so and forced him to join the rebels. "She explained and shook her head as the soft disapproving look appeared on her face. " It.. was heart rending. "
Neal Caffrey: "It's a horrible thing for anyone to have happen to them. It definitely makes one appreciate what we have here." There was no two ways about it. There were places in the world that could officially be termed 'hell'.
Veronica Cockburn: " It was unpleasant.. but it also serves as a reminder that we have far too much when so many have far too little. "She admitted simply. Of course she was also sitting in a dress currently that the price could feed that village for a year. " However, enough of that.. how have you been? What have you been up to? "She asked with a rise of her brows.
Neal Caffrey: "Mortgage fraud." Neal chuckled as the cabbie pulled up at the curb to drop them off. He paid the man, who got a rather nice tip, and then slid out of the car, his hand going to help Veronica out. "I think you'll like this place." www.sarabethsrestaurants.com/central-park-south/
Veronica Cockburn: She smiled at the Cabbie. " I hope you have a wonderful day. "She chimed up before taking Neal's hand as she slipped out of the cab. She looked up at the place and smiled. " Oh very nice. So what are you finding out about this fraud? "She inquired as she slipped her hand to his elbow once more as they walked to the door.
Neal Caffrey: "Seems there were loans taken out, not initiated by the buy/owner of the property. We still don't know who is behind it but it's a matter of following the money. Eventually it will lead you to the party or parties responsible." Neal guided her inside, a smile given the hostess, that smile that pretty much got him what he wanted, when he wanted it... except with Peter who had a tendency to narrow his eyes and regard Neal as he tried to figure out what sort of scheme he was running. In this case, however, it worked and soon they were being seated.
Veronica Cockburn: She stood like a little doll at his side as she waited with him and soon found themselves seated. She lifted her brows. " Isn't that the way it is with all businesses.. fraud or no.. following the money leads you to surprising results. "She pointed out as she picked up the menu to look over it. When the waiter approached she shared another warm smile. " Cup of black tea please. "She requested as she looked to Neal.
Neal Caffrey: "That it does." Neal nodded as they settled in, and he looked at the waiter. "I'll have the same, please." A smile was given and then he looked back at Veronica. "What looks interesting today?"
Veronica Cockburn: She grinned and looked back down to the menu. " I will probably have the grilled mozzarella sandwich.. " She admitted as she looked up at him. Then again her day started about four hours ago so.. breakfast had already been seen to. " What about you? "She inquired.
Neal Caffrey: "That Seafood Cobb Salad is actually looking pretty good." he closed his menu and set it aside to signal that they were in fact ready to order. He moved his hat further toward the edge of the table to keep it out of the way and when their tea arrived, he smiled his thanks and gestured to Veronica so she could place her order first.
Veronica Cockburn: She laughed softly and gave a nod. " It does " She agreed as she watched him and the hat moved a little further to the side. " So you are working.. with the .. "she paused to let the tea be delivered and murmured her thanks and placed her order. Waiting of course for Neal to do likewise and the waiter to move off. " And you believe you are going to continue there with them? Have you thought of any other venues of work that inspire you? "She inquired as her hands added a little sugar to her tea but nothing else.
Neal Caffrey: "Oh there are plenty of venues, but finding one that is legal..." He shook his head. "Not so easy for a guy like me. Working for the Bureau, helping Peter, gives me a chance to do what I know, what I love - more or less," granted it was more less, than more, "And do so with the backing of the FBI."
Veronica Cockburn: She laughed softly and gave him a mock scolding look. " Naughty.. "she chided him with the comment that mentioned legal or not. Though she kept that warm smile on her face while he continued to speak. " I can see the draw to that, keeping something as large and powerful as the government of your country to back your endeavors. " She gave a small nod. " What of a wife.. children.. happy household? Or are you one of those confirmed bachelors? "She inquired. No she wasn't looking, not in the slightest.. Veronica had a terrible habit of finding .. something wrong , regardless how large or small it may be, with whatever potential suitor.
Neal Caffrey: "Nothing at present." He smiled, though it was a bit ... withdrawn. "There was a time when I was more than ready, but I spent four years in super max and well that kind of killed it." Neal paused, thoughts wandering back. "There was a time when I could easily picture watching my kids playing at Madison Park." He lifted his cup of tea, after adding a touch of sugar and took a sip.
Veronica Cockburn: She listened to him and tilted her head. " And now that seems so far away? "She inquired as she gave a small nod. " I am certain that someday you will find the woman that she will steal your breath and it’s all you can do is to think about a future of happiness. "She spoke with that grin again and gave a small nod. Sure , she'd wish it on someone else!
Neal Caffrey: "I have been told I am a romantic." Sipping his tea he set the cup down and then leaned back, a careful study of the restaurant and its inhabitants given before he looked back at Veronica. "What about you? Boyfriend, fiancé, plans for children?"
Veronica Cockburn: She laughed softly as she held her tea cup between her fingers as she looked at him for a moment. " No, and no.. I was engaged once but there were differences that I couldn't .. it wouldn't have worked. "She admitted simply. The man wanted to go to Alaska for their honeymoon.. honestly! " And I don't think that I am.. really the maternal type. "She laughed softly. " My life is so busy , I.. wouldn't want to do to them what happened with Chessy and I. "She explained.
Neal Caffrey: "And what happened with you and ... Chessy." Neal contemplated the fact that the man's pet name, gifted to him by his sister, rolling off Neal's lips, would likely send the man into an apoplectic fit. His smile lifted a touch.
Veronica Cockburn: OH he had a fit when she called him that so one could only assume? " Well our father was very.. um.. "She paused to consider how to put it into words. " He liked the idea of marriage just rarely the marriage itself. I was sent to a boarding school at seven, I spent the summers with Chessy and we would see one of the new Mother's now and then. When they were dating and then they enjoyed making a fuss over us.. however that always faded and off to school again. "She admitted with a small shrug. Honestly she was glad for that.. there were several of her father's .. choices that she positively could not stand.
Neal Caffrey: "My father was a cop and I was two when I lost him. My mother did her best but it wasn't easy on her. She told me tales of my father, and I grew up wanting to be just like him. " besides your mother was there for you yes? "She lifted her brows. " Once mine divorced father, I'd see her on some holidays.. if she wasn't too busy . "She admitted. Though the kind of busy was off shopping and spending her alimony on whatever pool boy she toyed with that week.
